Busch to Ganassi
Kurt Busch and sponsor Monster Energy will move to Chip Ganassi Racing next season for Busch’s 20th season in NASCAR.
The partnership announced Tuesday is a one-year contract for Busch to drive the No. 1 Chevrolet with primary sponsorship from Monster. It is believed the one season as teammate to Kyle Larson will be Busch’s final year of fulltime NASCAR competition.
Busch won NASCAR’s Cup title in 2004 and counts the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600 among his 30 career victories. He spent the last five seasons with Stewart-Haas Racing.
Busch will replace Jamie McMurray, who has driven for Ganassi in 13 of his 17 seasons at the Cup level. McMurray is expected to race in the Daytona 500 for Ganassi, and he’s been offered a management role with the team.
At The Meadows
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will offer 195 live racing programs in 2019 – same as the 2018 total – highlighted by the 53rd edition of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace for the Orchids on July 20 and July 27.
Generally, the track will race four days each week. Race days January through March will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with Saturday replacing Friday thereafter. Post time most race days will be 1:05 PM.
The Adios, one of harness racing’s most prestigious events for 3-year-old pacers which typically carries a purse of approximately $500,000, will be contested over two Saturdays. Eliminations are set for July 20, first post 1:05 PM, with the final to go the following Saturday, when the Grand Circuit stakes-rich card begins at noon.
Other highlights of the 2019 schedule include:
- Four consecutive Sunday afternoon cards beginning Feb. 17 – a departure for the track, which has not raced Sundays for many years. There will be no Monday programs following those Sunday cards.
- Special live programs to complement each leg of the Thoroughbred Triple Crown. First post those days – May 4, May 18, June 8 – is 11:25 AM.
- Four spring/summer Friday twilight cards beginning at 5:30 PM.
- Three weeklong maintenance breaks – one each in April, September and December.
Players honored
The postseason awards continue to roll in for the Washington & Jefferson football team, as four Presidents were selected to the 2018 D3football.com All-South Region Team.
Senior Zac Quattrone, senior Andrew Reo and sophomore Andrew Wolf were W&J’s first team selections, while junior Jeffrey Oxner made second team. Reo becomes a two-time All-South Region pick after earning second-team accolades last year.
Quattrone was part of one of the most intimidating secondaries in the PAC. As a team, the Presidents paced the conference in interceptions (19) and turnover margin (plus-six). Reo, a three-time All-PAC selection, was a vital component of the Presidents’ offensive success throughout 2018.
Wolf had a breakout campaign as the W&J’s No. 1 target, as he posted one of the best receiving seasons in program history. Wolf was the NCAA Division III leader in receiving yards (1,339) and receiving touchdowns (21), the latter being both a PAC and W&J single-season record. A back-to-back All-PAC honoree, Oxner built upon his stellar sophomore campaign with an outstanding junior season. The All-Region defensive tackle paced the PAC with 20.0 tackles for loss and was ninth with 5.5 sacks, both of which were career highs.
