Small college basketball: W&J, Waynesburg get PAC road wins
Cameron Seeman, Jonathan DeVito and Zach Queen combined for 53 points and all 13 of Washington & Jefferson’s three-point field goals as the Presidents pulled out a 77-71 win at Chatham in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday night.
Seeman led the way for W&J (2-1, 4-5) with 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting. He made four three-pointers. DeVito followed with 17 points that included five three-pointers. Queen scored all 12 of his points on four three-pointers. In all, W&J was 13-for-23 from behind the three-point arc and shot 54 percent from the field.
Chatham (1-2, 4-3) received Isaiah Brown and stayed within striking distance until the final seconds. W&J received two clutch free throws from Primo Zini that gave the Presidents a 75-71 lead with 20 seconds remaining.
Waynesburg 81, Westminster 75: Brennan Smith scored a game-high 28 points and Waynesburg pulled out an 81-75 road win over Westminster in the PAC.
Smith led three players in double figures for Waynesburg (2-1, 3-5). Frank Bozicevic followed with 17 points and Jake Dougherty had 16.
Isaac Stamatiades scored 18 points to lead Westminster (2-1, 4-5), which was dealt its first conference loss.
Waynesburg led 73-72 with less than one minute remaining, but Smith made a clutch three-pointer with 28 seconds left to give the Yellow Jackets a four-point edge.
Smith was 3-for-4 from three-point range and made nine of 11 free throws. He also led Waynesburg with nine rebounds.
Women’s results
Wash & Jeff 64, Chatham 56: Former Canon-McMillan standouts Danielle Parker and Izzy Allen combined for 36 points and 21 rebounds to power Washington & Jefferson to a 64-56 victory over Chatham in a PAC game.
The loss was the first in conference play for Chatham (2-1, 5-4).
Parker scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Allen contributed 14 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Lauren Gilbert also scored in double figures with 11 points for W&J (2-1, 4-5).
Chatham was led by Ashley McClain’s 15 points.
The first half was tight are the largest lead was only four points. The Presidents took control of the game in second half, holding Chatham to only 21 points. Parker scored 10 of her points after halftime.
Westminster 73, Waynesburg 64: Jackie Mathews scored 16 points and Westminster outscored visiting Waynesburg by 10 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 73-64 victory in a PAC contest.
Waynesburg (0-3, 2-6) led 22-14 after one quarter and 31-27 at halftime. Westminster (2-1, 4-4) pulled to within one points after three quarters. The Yellow Jackets led by five points with six minutes remaining but Westminster closed the game on an 18-4 run. The Titans didn’t take the lead for good until 2:04 was left to play.
Hayley Porter scored 18 points to pace Waynesburg. Andrea Orlosky had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Elena McDermott scored 10 points.
