Wrestling roundup: Burgettstown, Waynesburg impressive in section openers
Burgettstown opened its Class AA Section 1A opener with a 52-23 victory at South Park on Wednesday.
of the 10 bouts that were contested, 10 ended in falls with Burgettstown winning six of those. The Blue Devils dominated in the middleweights.
Ryan Green (126), Austin Ryan (138), Shane Kemper (145), Turner Lehman (160), B.J. Slovick (170) and heavyweight Riley Kemper had the falls for the Blue Devils. Burgettstown also picked up two forfeits.
Joey Fisher (120), Anthony Weil (152), Jacob Robertshaw (182) and Jon Blackburn (220) had the falls for South Park.
McGuffey 64, Jefferson-Morgan 9: McGuffey combined three falls with six forfeits to rolls past host Jefferson-Morgan 64-9 in the Class AA Section 1B opener.
McGuffey picke dup four forfeits in the lower weights and then dominated the rest of the way, getting falls from Ethan Barr (152), Seth Burgdolt (160), Garrett Boone (195) and Nate Cumer (heavyweight).
Waynesburg 62, Montour 12: Waynesburg began its Class AAA Section 4B schedule in impressive fashion by rolling over visiting Montour 62-12.
The Raiders gave up only a forfeit at 103 pounds, the final weight class contested, and a pair of decisions. Waynesburg won nine bouts by pin and another via technical fall. At one stretch, the Raiders strung together five consecutive pins, each coming in less than three minutes.
Hunter Shriver (113), Cole Homet (120), Trey Howard (145), Luca Augustine (152), Colby Morris (160), Caleb Stephenson (170), Darnell Johnson (182), Ryan Howard (220) and Spencer Lesinski (hvy) each won by pin. Nate Stephenson was a winner by 17-2 technical fall.
Trinity 51, Moon 21: Trinity won nine of 14 bouts to come away with a 51-21 victory over Moon in a Class AAA match in Section 4B.
A.D. Nelson (120), Danny Boardley (126), Gianni Martini (132), Micah Finley (145), James Porter (160), Brian Woodhouse (170) and Dom Quarture (Hvy) had pins for Trinity (1-0, 1-0).
Tyler Diggins (106) had a pin for Moon (0-1, 0-1).
Peters Township 65, Baldwin 12: Peters Township took advantage of seven forfeits for a 65-12 win over Baldwin in a Section 2B match in Class AAA.
Donovan McMillon (152), Jeff Markert (182) and Tyler Minton (195) had pins for the Indians (1-0, 1-0). Will Kail (138) won by technical fall.

Fort Cherry 31, Chartiers-Houston 21: Fort Cherry string together six consecutive bouts wins in the middle and upper weights and did some of its best wrestling in the third period to defeat Chartiers-Houston 31-21 in Class AA Section 1A.
The Rangers swept the bouts from 145 pounds through 195 and that was the difference. Fort Cherry won two of the key bouts via fall, by Layton Sturgeon (145) and Jake Tkach (152), both coming in the third period. The rangers also had a major decision from Robbie West at 195.
Ty Mazutis (126) won by fall for Chartiers-Houston.
