In the NHL

The Buffalo Sabres have suspended forward Patrick Berglund indefinitely for failing to report to the team. The Sabres announced the suspension hours before facing the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. Berglund missed the past two games with what coach Phil Housley called an illness.

  • Matthew Tkachuk scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period for Calgary, David Rittich made 34 saves, and the Flames beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1.

Mark Giordano scored in the first period for the Pacific Division-leading Flames, who are 11-2-1 in their last 14 games, with 10 wins in regulation. Jordan Greenway’s second-period goal was all the Wild were able to muster after winning their previous two games against Montreal and Florida by a 12-2 margin.

  • The Blues have signed veteran defenseman Robert Bortuzzo to a three-year extension worth $1.375 million per season. Bortuzzo’s $4.125 million deal means he’s signed through the 2021-22 season. The 29-year-old has a goal and two assists in 12 games this season, his fifth with St. Louis.

In the NBA

Evan Fournier scored 24 points, Terrence Ross came off the bench to add 10 of his 19 in the fourth quarter, and the Orlando Magic rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat the Utah Jazz 96-89 and sweep their two-game homestand in Mexico City.

Tribe trades Alonso

The Cleveland Indians have made another offseason move, trading first baseman Yonder Alonso to the Chicago White Sox.

Cleveland gets 24-year-old outfielder Alex Call in a deal made official Saturday. Call has yet to make his major league debut. The Indians also rid themselves of Alonso’s entire $8 million salary for 2019.

It’s been a busy week for the three-time AL Central champions, who traded slugger Edwin Encarnacion and infielder Yandy Diaz and re-acquired first baseman Carlos Santana in a three-team trade on the final day of the winter meetings in Las Vegas.

Cleveland may not be done. The club has considered trading either ace Corey Kluber or All-Star Trevor Bauer. The Indians have outfield needs and are looking to rebuild their bullpen.

Suns trade Ariza

A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press the Washington Wizards have an agreement in principle to acquire Trevor Ariza from the Phoenix Suns for Kelly Oubre Jr. and Austin Rivers.

The Wizards landed Ariza directly from the Suns after a reported three-way trade involving the Memphis Grizzlies fell apart. Washington gave up the 23-year-old Oubre and 26-year-old Rivers to land the 33-year-old Ariza.

In pro golf

John and Little John Daly birdied the final six-holes for a 13-under 59 and a one-stroke lead in the PNC Father-Son Challenge.

The Dalys played the back nine in 8-under 28 in occasional rain at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Grande Lakes. David and Carter Toms were second, and Jack and grandson GT Nicklaus matched Stewart and Connor Cink at 61.

  • Scott Jamieson has a one-shot lead going into the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship after a 68 took him to 11 under overall and ahead of overnight leader David Lipsky.

Jamieson’s only European Tour win also came in South Africa, at the Nelson Mandela Championship six years ago, and he’s had a string of top-10 finishes in the country.
