Late pins lift Wash High over South Park

A pair of pins in the final three bouts for Washington earned the Prexies a narrow 45-36 win over South Park in Section 1A in Class AA.

At 195, Wash High’s Marquez Thomas pinned Hunter Copcho in 18 seconds. After South Park was awarded a forfeit at 220, Gerald Comedy sealed the victory with a pin in 2:59 over Jon Blackburn in the heavyweight bout.

Brednan Henning (126), Zack Berdine (138), Mike Ewing (152) and Shalik Cox (170) also earned pins for Washington, which improves to 2-0.

South Park falls to 0-2.

Canon-McMillan 59, West Allegheny 19: After falling in the first three bouts of the night, Canon-McMillan rallied with three consecutive pins and dominated the remainder of the match to defeat West Allegheny, 59-19, in Section 4A in Class AAA.

The Big Macs fell behind 16-0 after pins by West Allegheny’s Ty McGeary (160), Dante Flatti (170) and a 15-6 major decision by Nico Flatti at 182.

The upper weights sparked Canon-McMillan (2-0) as Evan Miller (195), Alec Hendal (220) and Giomar Ramos (heavyweight) all earned first-period pins to recapture the lead. It was the start of six straight bout wins, including a tech fall from Jacob Haupt (113) and a Jimmy Baxter pin at 120.

Kenny Hayman, Remington Ross and Tanner Rohaley also earned pins for the Big Macs.

Bentworth 39, Jefferson-Morgan 23: Controlling the lower weights, Bentworth pulled away early then cemented its 39-23 victory over Section 1B foe Jefferson-Morgan in Class AA.

A pair of forfeits and a pin by Bruce Hook (126) gave the Bearcats an early advantage. They then padded their lead in the middleweights with a pair of pins. At 152, Wes Martin pinned Liam Ankrom in 1:47. The next bout, Owen Petrisek pinned Colby Rutan in 1:28 to seal the victory. Heavyweight Lorenzo Ascon finished the match with another pin for Bentworth.

Jonathan Wolfe (195) earned a fall in 1:10 for Jefferson-Morgan (0-3), the only bout wrestled and won by the Rockets.

Peters Township 51, Bethel Park 30: Quick falls dominated the night between these bordering schools in Section 2B in Class AAA.

Three of the four pins coming within the first minute of the bouts wrestled were won by Peters Township as the Indians defeated Bethel Park, 51-30.

Bryce Wilkes (120) began the night for PT with a nine-second pin. Indians’ heavyweight Grant Nelson pinned his opponent in 42 seconds and in the final bout, Luca Attanucci (113) walked away victories with a fall in 13 seconds.

Donovan McMillon (152) and Brandon Matthews (170) also earned pins for Peters Township.

McGuffey 72, West Greene 12: McGuffey won all but two bouts in defeating West Greene, 72-12, in a Section 1B bout in Class AA.

Jett Pattison (126), Rocco Ferraro (138), Jake Garrety (145), Rocco Falosk (170), Marshall Mounts (220) and Noah Cline (Hvy) had pins for the Highlanders (7-4).

West Greene (0-2) had two forfeits.

Burgettstown 72, Fort Cherry 3: Burgettstown won all but one bout on the way to a 72-3 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 1A bout in Class AA.

Ryan Green (126), Austin Ryan (145), Shane Kemper (152) and D.J. Slovick (182) had pins for Burgettstown (3-0).

Waynesburg 55, Moon 21: Backed by five pins, Waynesburg downed Moon 55-21 in a Section 4B match in Class AAA.

Cole Homet (120), Colton Stoneking (126), Nate Stephenson (145), Colby Morris (160) and Ryan Howard (220) had pins for the Raiders (9-0).

Christian Tanner (195) had a pin for Moon.

Trinity 48, Chartiers Valley 25: Five straight wins through the middle of the lineup helped Trinity down Chartiers Valley, 48-25, in a Section 4B match in Class AAA.

A.D. Nelson (120), Drew Cain (160), Nico Martini (182), Cole Whitmer (195) and Dom Quarture (Hvy) had pins for the Hillers (2-0). Micah Finley (145) had a technical fall and Gianni Martini (132) won by default.

Ashton Sadowski (106) and Shabur Karimov (170) had pins for CV.

South Fayette 45, New Castle 24: South Fayette battled back fromm an early deficit to take a 45-24 victory from New Castle in Section 4A of Class AAA.

The Lions trailed 18-0 after the first four bouts as New Castle got pins from Stone Miller (113) and Matt Fuller (120).

South Fayette ran off the next seven bouts to take command of the match. Shane Dunn (152), Eli Brinsky (160), Michael Dedi (170) and John Mikesell (182) had pins.

Mark Kurchena (220) and Quentin Franklin (Hvy) finished the bout with pins for the Lions (1-0, 5-2).
