High school basketball roundup: PT outlasts North Catholic in 3OTs
Section games are the ones that are supposed to be action-packed and keep fans on the edge of their seats in the final weeks of the regular season.
Somebody forgot to give Peters Township the memo. The Indians made a non-section game thrilling.
Makenna Marisa scored six of her team-high 28 points in the third overtime as Peters Township defeated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 69-66 Saturday afternoon.
Jumping out to an early 17-4 lead after the first quarter, Peters Township (17-2) allowed the Trojans to score 21 points in the fourth quarter as the two went into overtime tied, 47-47.
The comeback from North Catholic (17-2) was led by Tess Myers, who finished with a game-high 37 points. Kylee Lewandosky scored 11 points for the Trojans, and Dani Short chipped in 10.
Isabella Mills, who finished with 25 points for the Indians, served as a one-two punch with Marisa.
It’s the seventh straight win for PT.
Washington 54, Shenango 32: After starting slow, Washington forced 31 turnovers and defeated Shenango, 54-32, in a Section 1-AA game.
Led by point guard Carley Allen’s 12 steals, leading to several of her game-high 17 points, the Prexies led 17-12 at halftime.
That’s when Washington (9-4, 12-6) caught fire, scoring 37 points in the second half.
Torri Finley recorded a double-double for the Prexies with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Randi Thomas scored 11 points and had seven assists. Jahlea Oakley was big on the boards for Wash High, collecting 11 rebounds.
Olivia Rich led Shenango (5-7, 7-12) with seven points.

Canon-McMillan 41, North Catholic 30: It was similar to a trip to the dentist’s office. That’s how Canon-McMillan Rick Bell summed up the Big Macs non-section game, a 41-30 victory over Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.
Kenyon Lewis and Jason Fowlkes combined for 23 points in the low-scoring affair as the Big Macs stifled North Catholic to eight combined points in the first and third quarters.
Canon-McMillan (18-1) trailed 18-15 at halftime before outscoring the Trojans 26-11 in the second half to pull away with the win.
Lewis finished with 12 points for the Big Macs.
North Catholic (9-10) was paced by Michael Drambel and John Fukon, who each had eight points.
Montour 86, Peters Township 65: Matching Montour score for score in the first half, Peters Township couldn’t keep up in the final two quarters as the Indians fell 86-65 in a non-section game.
Tied at halftime, 41-41, the Spartans outscored PT 26-12 in the third quarter to take command of the game.
Kavon Moreman led the four scorers in double figures for Montour (8-11) with a game-high 19 points. Jared Crawford had a nice game with 15 points, while teammates James Eubanks and Tyler Banks finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Peters Township (5-14) was limited to 12 points in both the third and fourth quarters. The Indians were led by Colin Cote’s 12 points.
