The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has announced the extension of the suspension of live racing through Feb. 23. The track previously announced the suspension would last through Feb. 6.
During the suspension of live racing, The Meadows Racetrack and Race Book will remain open for simulcasting along with the off-track betting facility at Harmar.
The suspension of live racing at The Meadows will have no impact on operations inside The Meadows Casino, its food and beverage outlets or its bowling facility.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture was notified Jan. 24 that a Standardbred horse at The Meadows had showed clinical signs consistent with Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy and tested positive for EHV-1. At that time, two barns were placed under quarantine and all horses were restricted from entering or leaving the track.
Five barns of 190 horses have been under quarantine by state veterinarians after an initial outbreak.
Unless a new case of EHV-1 is detected, all horses can be cleared after 28 days without symptoms or 21 days with confirmation of negative test results for the virus.
