Three local players selected for Big 33 Football Classic
Three local high school football players were selected to play in the 61st Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Big 33 Football Classic against the state of Maryland.
The game will be held at 7 p.m. June 16 at Central Dauphin Middle School’s Landis Field.
Trinity offensive tackle Ben Phillis was selected to the Pennsylvania roster along with South Fayette defensive lineman Ray Eldridge and linebacker Noah Plack-Tallerico
Phillis, the anchor on the Hillers’ offensive line, committed to Akron prior to his senior season.
A Richmond recruit, Eldridge finished 2017 with 49 tackles and seven sacks for the Lions’ defense, which allowed only 12.5 points per game.
Plack-Tallerico, who recently signed his letter of intent to play at Delaware, was South Fayette’s second-leading tackler. The linebacker had 75 tackles, five sacks and forced and recovered a fumble.
The two are the first to represent South Fayette since former quarterback Brett Brumbaugh in 2015. Brumbaugh was named the Most Valuable Player of the game.
It’s the sixth game installment of the contest between Pennsylvania and Maryland. Pennsylvania holds a 4-1 series advantage.
