Second-half comeback lifts New Castle over South Fayette
BEAVER FALLS – Marcus Hooker and Carrington Smith combined for 33 points as second-seeded New Castle stormed back after a six-point halftime deficit to defeat South Fayette, 55-45, in a WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal game at Geneva College Saturday night.
South Fayette, the No. 7 seed, took a 27-21 lead into halftime after ending the second quarter on a 12-0 run.
The lead didn’t last long as New Castle, behind a game-high 17 points from Hooker, outscored the Lions 22-10 in the third quarter to retake the lead, 43-37.
Smith scored 16 points for the Red Hurricane.
Tim Locher led the Lions with 13 points.
