Small college basketball roundup: Cal men ends season with win over Clarion
Isaiah Lewis scored 26 points, Jahmere Howze had 21 and California University outgunned visiting Clarion 94-84 in a PSAC West Division finale Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Cal ends its season with an 11-17 record, including 7-15 in the PSAC. Clarion finishes at 0-22, 3-25.
The Vulcans shot 49 percent from the field and made 11 three-pointers. Five different Vulcans made two shots each from behind the arc.
Robel Teckle scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Cal.
Clarion’s Mason Mraz and Cameron Grumley each scored 22 points.
Women’s result
California 73, Clarion 50: Shatara Parsons had another outstanding game, scoring 31 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as California defeated visiting Clarion 73-50 in the PSAC West Division regular-season finale.
California, which is ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II, went 18-4 in the conference and is 23-5 overall. The Vulcans will begin play in the PSAC tournament at home in the first round Monday against Slippery Rock. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
Parsons amde 13 of 24 shots and helped powered Cal to a 41-29 halftime lead. The Vulcans held Clarion to 32 percent shooting.
Jiahna Flood-Francis scored 13 points and D.J. Hahn had 11 for the Vulcans.
Clarion (2-20, 7-21) was led by Amesha Harden-Pullium, who scored 20 points.
