Pirates, Tigers fit to be tied
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers played to an 8-8 spring training tie Sunday afternoon in Lakeland, Fla.
Nick Castellanos homered and Jeimer Candelario doubled and scored for Detroit’s split squad.
Alfredo Reyes had an inside-the-park homer for Pittsburgh.
Tyler Glasnow started on the mound for the Pirates and allowed two runs on two hits in two innings. His fastball hit 100 mph twice and retired the Tigers in order in the first inning. He gave up a double and the Castellanos home run in the second inning.
Reyes’ inside-the-park homer gave Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead in the seventh inning, but Detroit scored six runs of nonroster invitee John Stilson and minor league pitcher Tate Scineaux to take an 8-4 lead.
Austin Meadows drove in three runs with a triple in the eighth inning and the Pirates tied the score with a run in the ninth.
