Basketball roundup: Schrockman has hot hand for Blue Devils

Burgettstown began the night as the highest-scoring Class AAA team in the WPIAL. The Blue Devils’ scoring average went up after an 89-64 home-court victory over Beth-Center in Section 4.

The Blue Devils (3-0, 7-2) moved into a first-place tie in the section with Washington, which had its game at Charleroi postponed. The Blue Devils and Little Prexies play Tuesday at Wash High.

Burgettstown scored 52 first-half points and forged a 24-point lead over Beth-Center (1-3, 4-6).

Jacob Schrockman led four Burgettstown players in double figures with 19 points. Max Shaw followed with 17 points, Garrett Dhans had 16 and Ryan Lounder 14.

Easton McDaniel and Jacob Bobbs shared scoring honors for B-C with 16 points each. J.J. Green and Andrew Bower had 10 points each.

Albert Gallatin 69, Ringgold 49: Albert Gallatin is one of the hottest teams in Class 5A and the Colonials extended their winning streak to five games with a 69-49 victory over host Ringgold in Section 1.

The win moves AG (3-1, 7-4) into sole possession of first place, a half-game ahead of Trinity, which was idle Friday night.

The Colonials outscored Ringgold (0-3, 2-9) in ever quarter, building a 31-17 halftime lead.

Gavin Uphold led AG with 19 points. Nate English and Nate bricker each had 10 points.

Jaden Taylor scored a game-high 21 points for Ringgold and Chris Peccon had 11.

Belle Vernon 71, Keystone Oaks 64: Senior Bryce Washington led a Belle Vernon comeback as the Leopards scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Keystone Oaks 71-64 in a Section 3-AAAA game.

Falling behind 19-9 after the first quarter, the Leopards began to crawl their way back with a nine-point advantage in the second, cutting their halftime deficit to one point, 33-32.

Belle Vernon (3-1, 7-3) then outscored the Golden Eagles 27-17 in the final eight minutes to win its third consecutive game.

Washington led all scorers with 20 points, while Derek Thomas finished with 14 points for the Leopards.

Keystone Oaks (2-2, 5-6), which lost its third game in a row, was paced by three players in double figures. Josh Snell scored a team-high 18 points. Vonte Mitchell finished with 17.
