Lyndon Henderson broke the Monessen single-game boys basketball scoring record Wednesday night by pouring in 55 points in the Greyhounds’ 93-54 road victory over Section 2-A foe Geibel Catholic.

Henderson broke Josh Arnold’s school record of 53 points that was set in a 2006 game against Beth-Center. The junior made seven three-pointers, was 8-for-13 at the free-throw line, scoring 22 points in the first half and 33 in the second half. Henderson entered the night averaging 20 points per game.

Monessen (5-0, 6-7) led Geibel (2-4, 4-12) by only nine points at halftime, but Henderson’s big second half helped the Greyhounds outscore the Gators by 30 points after the intermission.

Cory Fleming scored 13 points for Monessen.

Cole Kendall and Enzo Fetsko tallied 23 and 17 points, respectively, for Geibel.

Carmichaels 53, Beth-Center 49: Despite Beth-Center’s Easton McDaniel scoring 31 points, the Bulldogs fell in a road non-section matchup at Carmichaels, 53-49.

McDaniel scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, but Matt Barrish, who scored 16 points for Carmichaels, made 10 of 12 free-throw attempts in the quarter to fend off the Bulldogs.

Carmichaels (7-8) led 12-9 after the first quarter, but the Mikes scored only three points in the second quarter to trail by three at halftime. Beth-Center (5-10) led by one point entering the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs couldn’t stop fouling Barrish in the last period.

JJ Green scored 12 points for the Bulldogs, and Nick Mundell scored 13 for the Mikes.
