High school basketball roundup: South Fayette keeps title hopes alive

South Fayette remained in title contention in Section 3-AAAA and dealt McGuffey’s playoff hopes a blow with a 45-30 victory over the host Highlanders in a boys basketball game Saturday afternoon.

South Fayette (7-3, 10-6) is tied for second place with Uniontown, one game behind section leader Belle Vernon. McGuffey falls to 3-7 in the section and 10-8 overall.

The first half ended with South Fayette leading 17-15 but the Lions won the game with a 21-3 scoring advantage in the third quarter.

Connor Mislan led South Fayette with 17 points and Noah Plack had 13. Mislan scored 11 of his points in the pivotal third quarter.

David Chapman paced McGuffey with 13 points and Trent Belleville followed with 10.

Canon-McMillan 63, North Hills 41: Canon-McMillan ran its winning streak to 11 with a 63-41 thumping of North Hills in the PBC Legends Classic at Moon High School.

Canon-McMillan (15-1) started quickly, forging a 33-16 lead at halftime and never letting North Hills (3-14) within striking distance. The Big Macs made 10 three-pointers in the game.

Jason Fowlkes, who was named the game’s MVP, scored 17 points to lead C-M in scoring. Kenyon Lewis followed with 14 points and Tommy Samosky had 11.

Kam Taylor, with 14 points, was the top scorer for North Hills.

Monessen 80, Bishop Canevin 52: It has taken a long time but Monessen has finally climbed above the .500 mark.

Cory Fleming scored 22 points and the Greyhounds made 11 three-point field goals in an 80-52 rout of Bishop Canevin at the PBC Legends Classic.

The win gives Monessen an 8-7 record. Bishop Canevin falls to 4-13.

Monessen led 44-22 at halftime and controlled the game the rest of the way. Fleming led the Greyhounds’ long-range attack with four three-pointers to go with seven assists.

Isaiah Allums had 17 points and five steals, Lyndon Henderson had 15 points and Darius Stevenson 11.

Sean Weldon scored a game-high 24 points for Canevin.

Girls results

OLSH 64, Washington 33: Ashley Norling scored a game-high 21 points and Our Lady of Scared Heart used a big third quarter to defeat host Washington in a showdown for second place in Section 1-AA.

OLSH (9-1, 15-2) led by only 30-23 at halftime but outscored the Prexies by an unthinkable 22-0 margin in the pivotal third quarter.

Carley Allen was the only Washington player in double figures with 16 points. The Prexies slip to 7-3 in section and 10-5 overall. The teams meet again Monday at OLSH.

South Fayette 55, South Park 43: South Fayette used balanced scoring to defeat South Park 55-43 in a non-section game.

Maura Castelluci and Jordyn Caputo each scored 11 points for South Fayette (11-4), which has won five in a row.

Cassidy Zaudier scored a game-high 14 points for South Park (9-8).

Peters Township 47, Hampton 37: Peters Township played well in the first and fourth quarters and that was enough for the Indians to defeat Hampton 47-37 in the Bethel Park Classic.

The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for Hampton (13-3).

Peters Township (14-2), which has won four in a row, led 20-9 after one quarter but Hampton battled back and pulled to within 33-32 after three quarters. The Indians then held Hampton two field goals and five points in the fourth quarter.

Mckenna Marisa led three PT players in double figures with 17 points. Olivia Ziegler had 11 points and Lillian Young 10.

Burgettstown 42, Waynesburg 26: Burgettstown pulled away in the second half and defeated Waynesburg 42-26 in a non-section game.

Burgettstown (6-11) had four players score at least eight points, led by Emily Prasko with 10 points.

Waynesburg (4-13) received a game-high 12 points from Jordan Sibert.
