SAUGET, Ill. — The Wild Things’ nine-game winning streak came to an end Thursday with a 9-7 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies.

The start of the game was delayed 43 minutes because of rain and it was stopped again for 33 minutes after only one batter in the top of the first inning.

Jonathan Piron hit a three-run double in Gateway’s six-run fourth inning against Washington starter Danny Garmedia (2-3). The big inning gave the Grizzlies a 9-3 lead. Piron homered earlier in the game and finished with six RBI.

The Wild Things scored four times in the eighth to close to within 9-7.

Hector Roa and Mike Hill each homered for Washington. Roa drove in three runs.

Will Anderson (2-0), activated off the disabled list earlier in the day, struck out 10 in six innings.  Kevin Simmons got the final three outs for his third save.
