Five-run 10th inning lifts Wild Things over Miners
MARION, Ill. — Brett Marr hit a two-run single to begin the scoring in a five-run 10th inning as the Wild Things defeated Southern Illinois, 9-5, in a Frontier League game Saturday night at Rent One Park.
James Harris singled home Marr, Carter McEachern hit a run-scoring triple then scored on a sacrifice fly to end the offensive outburst.
Washington closer Zach Strecker (2-0) pitched 1? scoreless innings to earn the win.
Patrick Duester (2-1) suffered the loss for the Miners after giving up all five runs in the 10th, which broke a 4-4 tie.
The Wild Things trailed 4-3 entering their at-bat in the ninth inning when Roman Collins hit a one-out single to score Harris and tie the game.
Southern Illinois built an early lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. A John Holland run-scoring single and solo home run from Joe Dudek gave the Miners a 2-0 advantage.
Hector Roa went 4-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice for Washington. Harris also had three hits.
