Schaumburg edges Wild Things
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Washington battled back from an early deficit to take a three-run lead in the seventh, only to give it all back to Schaumburg Friday and lose, 6-5.
The Wild Things (23-14) have lost three straight games but remain atop the East Division, leading Lake Erie by one game.
Zack Weigel’s eighth-inning single to score Sean Godfrey was the game-winning hit for the Boomers (19-17). Weigel went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
Schaumburg drew first blood in the second inning, as Dylan Jones’ single scored Collin Ferguson and Zack Weigel.
After Washington tied the game in the fourth, Brett Marr smacked a run-scoring single in the sixth and Hector Roa singled to give Washington a 5-2 lead.
The Boomers would bounce back in the seventh with three runs to tie the game. Ferguson hit a solo home run to break up Trevor Bradley’s streak of 15 straight retired Boomers, and Gardiner and Kenny Towns both had RBI in the inning.
Davis Adkins (3-2) was the losing pitcher.
Mitch Schulewitz (2-0) earned the win in relief for Schaumburg.
Bradley allowed five runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
