Chartiers-Houston (19-7) led 16-14 after one quarter before Conemaugh Township (15-9) kicked its offense into high gear over the next quarters. The Indians outscored Chartiers-Houston 27-11 in the second quarter to take a 41-27 lead and pushed the lead to 63-39 after three quarters.

Girls results

Beaver 74, Belle Vernon 43: A very good season for the Belle Vernon girls ended Saturday with a first-round loss to Beaver, 74-43, in the PIAA Class 4A playoffs at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.

Belle Vernon finishes the season with an 18-7 record, and who knows how well the leopards could have done if they didn’t have to play beaver in the postseason. It was Beaver (19-6) that eliminated Belle Vernon from the WPIAL playoffs in the quarterfinals.

Belle Vernon was slow starting in the rematch. The Leopards had trouble shaking off 15 days of rust and scored only two points in the first quarter, falling behind by 14 points after only eight minutes.

Belle Vernon never recovered and trailed 33-19 at halftime and 55-33 after three quarters.

Bella Prosset had a big game for beaver, scoring a game-high 29 points. She was 12-for-12 at the free-throw line. Paige Ziggas had 17 points and Sydney Barney 15.

Belle Vernon was led by Caitlyn Trombley and Kelsey Green as each scored 12 points. The Leopards were hurt by making only 10 of 24 free throws.
