Trailing 5-4 with two outs remaining in their last at-bat in the top of the seventh inning, Bo Haines hit a two-run homer to right field to lead Ringgold past McGuffey, 6-5, in a Section 3-AAAA game Tuesday afternoon.

The win increases the Rams chances of winning the section, now only needing one more victory to clinch the title.

Ringgold lost its 2-1 lead when the Highlanders scored four runs in the fourth inning after their first seven batters reached base safely to go up by three, 5-2.

The Rams narrowed the deficit with a two-run fifth. Haines stifled McGuffey (1-10, 3-12) on the mound in the final three innings, only surrendering one hit and striking out four.

The loss held off Carmichaels’ celebration for the section title and ended its 10-game winning streak.

The two teams play again at 4:30 p.m. today at Carmichaels.

• Cameron Palmer threw a complete game to lead Beth-Center to a 6-2 win over Frazier in an important game Section 1-AA game.

The Bulldogs needed a win to keep in striking distance of the fourth, and final, playoff spot in the section. They are currently trailing Chartiers-Houston by two games for fourth place.

Palmer, Beth-Center’s starter, struck out six batters and scatted five hits. Dylan Dingle drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs, who improve to 5-5 in the section and 6-6 overall.

Joel Lonigro relieved Cavallo for the final inning and struck out all three batters he faced. The two only needed 68 pitches to finish the five-inning shutout.
