Harris hits 2 home runs as Wild Things roll Slammers
JOLIET, Ill. – James Harris hit two home runs, Thomas Dorminy pitched seven strong innings and the Wild Things defeated the Joliet Slammers 13-2 Wednesday night.
It was a season-high in runs for Washington.
Harris hit the first pitch of the game from Joliet’s Shane Bryant (0-2) for a home run and added a two-run shot in the fifth inning that gave the Wild Things a 3-2 lead. Harris, who has five home runs on the season, finished with four RBI as he added a sacrifice fly in Washington’s three-run eighth inning.
Washington broke the game open by scoring three times in the eighth and five more in the ninth.
Dorminy (3-1) gave up two runs in the second inning but retired 12 batters in a row at one stretch. He gave up five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight. Sam Mersing pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Davis Adkins pitched the ninth.
Washington had 14 hits. Carter McEachern had three hits and drove in four runs. Mike Hill, Justin Bohn and Mick Fennell – the bottom three hitters in the lineup – combined for eight runs.
