South Fayette girls 4th at cross country championships

HERSHEY – WPIAL champion South Fayette had a top-5 finish in the team standings Saturday at the PIAA Cross Country Championships.

South Fayette finished fourth out of 18 teams in Class AA with 149 points and an average time of 21:25. Central Cambria grabbed the top spot in the classification with 92 points and an average time of 20:50.

Setting the pace for the Lions were Hailey Poe (20:23), Lauren Iagnemma (20:56), Gabby Baiano (21:34), Baylee Carpenter (21:57), Emma Fleck (22:14), Delaney Parisi (22:45) and Peyton Yater (23:17).

Belle Vernon’s Grace Henderson finished 33rd in Class AA Girls with a time of 21:01.

The West Greene girls collected a 15th-place finish out of 19 teams in Class A with 360 points and an average time of 23:39. Marion Center won the Class A championship with 96 points and an average time of 21:46.

Leading the Pioneers were Katie Lampe (22:40), Brooke Barner (23:23), Ashley Cumberledge (23:37), McKenna Lampe (23:59), Madison Lampe (24:36), Sarah Collins (28:47) and Danielle Fox (32:36).

In Class AA boys, Ringgold’s Eric Obringer finished 81st, South Fayette’s Zach Conner finished 82nd and Ringgold’s Ethan Gamble finished 83rd. Each crossed the finished line at 18:15. In Class 3A boys, Peters Township’s Zack Marmol placed 93rd with a time of 17:35.
