A pair of second-seeded teams will travel further than their lower-seeded opponents for the upcoming round of the WPIAL high school football playoffs.

Burgettstown, the No. 2 seed in Class AA, will play seventh-seeded Freedom in a quarterfinal game at Central Valley High School.

The second seed in Class 4A, South Fayette, takes on third-seeded Belle Vernon at Ringgold in a semifinal game.

The distance for both of the higher seeds are further than their opponents. Freedom is six and a half miles from Central Valley, while Burgettstown is 26 miles away. South Fayette is 22 miles away from Ringgold, about a 45-minute drive, and Belle Vernon is 11 miles away.

Like the first round, all games start at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

In a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class AA championship game, Washington and Steel Valley will play at Elizabeth Forward High School. The Prexies scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Steel Valley, 37-10, and win the title.

Other area games include Charleroi, the fourth seed in Class AA, taking on No. 5 Mohawk at Moon and third-seeded Peters Township playing No. 6 Penn-Trafford at West Mifflin. Both are quarterfinal matchups.
