Football semifinals in 2 classes set for Friday
The Class 5A and 2A football semifinal sites were released Monday by the WPIAL and one local team will not have to venture outside of Washington County to play its game.
In the Class 2A bracket, fourth-seeded Charleroi (10-1) will face No. 7 seed South Side Beaver (9-3) on Friday at Canon-McMillan High School. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Charleroi is coming off a 42-13 win over Mohawk in the quarterfinals. South Side Beaver upset top-seeded Shady Side Academy, 32-16.
In Class 5A, No. 3-seeded Peters Township (10-2) will play No. 2 Penn Hills (12-0), 7;30 p.m. Friday at Norwin High School.
Peters Township hoping this will be the first of two trips to Norwin. The Class 5A title game will be Nov. 23 at Norwin. The Class 2A championship will be played at Robert Morris University’s Joe Walton Stadium on Nov. 23. The other four championship games will be played Saturday at Heinz Field.
