Garret Guthrie kicked a 35-yard field goal with 1:56 to play as Waynesburg rallied for 10 fourth-quarter points to defeat Carnegie Mellon, 24-21, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Saturday.

The victory, the Yellow Jackets’ third in a row, moved their record to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Carnegie Mellon fell to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Waynesburg entered the fourth quarter trailing CMU 21-14 but Dozhay Crumb caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Perone with 10:08 to play in the game. That tied the score, 21-21 and set the stage for Guthrie’s winning kick.

Waynesburg jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a 13-yard scamper by Perone and a six-yard run by Chad Walker, who rushed for 61 yards on 17 carries.

CMU tied it in the second quarter when quarterback Alex Cline threw a TD pass and Chris Haas went over from three yards out. The Tartans took the lead in the third quarter on Cline’s one-yard run in the third quarter.
