Wild Things lose finale, await Evansville in playoffs
AVON, Ohio — The playoff-bound Washington Wild Things concluded the regular season Sunday afternoon with a 10-4 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers.
The Wild Things finished the regular season with a 54-42 record, their best since 2014. The Joliet Slammers also finished with a 54-42 record by defeating Schaumburg Sunday night, but Washington is the East Division champion and top seed for the upcoming Frontier League playoffs because it won the season series against the Slammers.
Washington will begin play in the first round of the best-of-5 playoffs Tuesday night at Evansville. The Otters finished second to River City in the West.
Washington will play Game 1 and Game 2 on the road. Game 3 will be played Friday at Wild Things Park and Games 4 and 5, if necessary, will be Saturday and Sunday in Washington.
Lake Erie scored seven runs in five innings against Washington starter Levi MaVorhis (2-3). Joel McKeithan homered, hit two doubles and drove in three runs for the Crushers. Aaron Hill also hit a home run.
Chase Simmons went 3-for-4 and drove in a run for the Wild Things. Simmons finished the season with a .383 batting average.
