College golf
The Washington & Jefferson women’s golf team opened the 2018 campaign with a sixth-place finish at the two-day Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout at The Links at Spring Church.
The Presidents logged a combined team score of 733 (363-370) to finish sixth in the 10-team field. W&J shaved 50 strokes off of its score from this event last season.
Freshman Alexandra Wagner paced W&J with a 175 (90-85) in her first collegiate event. Wagner finished in a tie for 22nd.
• The W&J men’s golf team shot a school-record 271 in the second round of the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout to finish first in the tough 14-team field.
For the event, the Presidents carded a 1-over 561 (290-271) to best Thomas More by three strokes for first place.
Sophomore Ben Peticca led the Presidents with a 4-under 136 (69-67) to take second place.
W&J water
polo wins
The Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team beat Salem, 14-11, at the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell. Saturday’s victory avenged W&J’s 19-2 setback against Salem from the 2017 season.
Will Kitsch and Dustin Reinke led the Presidents with four goals apiece.
