Girls soccer: Timlin scores 2 as Bentworth wins battle for first place
Jocelyn Timlin scored both goals as Bentworth downed Chartiers-Houston 2-1 Wednesday in a battle for first place in Section 2-A.
Bentworth is now 4-0 in the section and 6-1 overall. Chartiers-Houston, which trailed 2-0, is 4-1 in the section and 5-4 overall.
• Rhea Kijowski scored one goal and assisted on three others as Waynesburg won its third in a row, 5-0, at South Allegheny in a Section 3-AA match.
Bailey Fudala had a goal and an assist for the Raiders (3-1, 5-2). Brenna benke, Calli Gibson and Regan Carlson had the other goals for Waynesburg, which led 3-0 at halftime. Goalkeeper McKenzie Booth made two saves.
• South Fayette scored the first seven goals of the match and cruised past Central Valley 7-1 in Section 4-AAA.
Rachel Weis, Sara Meindl each scored two goals for South Fayette (3-2, 5-2), which led by only 2-0 at halftime. Helina VanBibber, Katlynn Kyle and Abby Thompson also scored for the Lions. Central Valley (2-3, 3-4) avoided the shutout by scoring with only 4:50 remaining in the match.
• Sydney Urbine had a hat trick to lead Beth-Center to a 4-2 victory over Geibel in Section 2-A.
Julia Ogrodowski added the other goal for B-C (2-2, 2-4). Tatum Luzero scored twice for the Gators (0-5, 1-5).
• Regan LaVigna scored three times and Hannah Stuck added two more as Peters Township routed Baldwin 9-1 in Section 2-AAAA match.
Sarah Heisinger, Emma Cantwell, Maddie Bush and Nicolette Joll each scored one for the Indians (5-1, 9-1).
Baldwin is 1-5 overall and in the section.
• Freshman Alyssa Clutter scored with 10 minutes remaining to break a tie and give Trinity a 4-3 victory over visiting Thomas Jefferson in Section 3-AAA.
Nina King, Hannah Abbondanza and Courtney Dahlquist scored the other goals for Trinity (3-2 in section, 6-2 overall). KO 2-3, 2-5.
• Annabel Thomas scored three goals and Canon-McMillan overpowered Mt. Lebanon 5-0 in Section 2-AAAA.
The Big Macs (3-2-1, 4-2-1) forged a 3-0 lead by halftime and goalkeeper Abby Hipkins protected the shutout. Sydney Snyder had a big game with four assists, Emily Gross scored one goal and Sydney Powell had the other tally.
Mt. Lebanon fell into a tie with C-M in the section at 3-2-1. The Blue Devils are 3-3-2 overall.
