Mihoces TDs, interception return turn tide on Waynesburg
SOUTH PARK — Rudy Mihoces rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns, and Jacob Robertshaw returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown on the final play from scrimmage in the first half as South Park defeated Waynesburg 41-7 in a Class 3A Tri-County West Conference game.
Mihoces, who carried 19 times, broke open a close game in the second quarter when he ran for scores of 53 and 23 yards during a three-minute stretch that saw South Park (1-2, 1-3) forge a 28-7 lead.
Robertshaw’s interception and return for a score ended any thought of a comeback by Waynesburg (0-3, 1-4), which trailed by only 14-7 midway through the second quarter.
Michoces opened the scoring with a two-yard TD run and Brandon Goldbach gave South Park a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter with a 60-yard TD reception on a pass by Stephen Kmonk.
Waynesburg made it 14-7 when Caleb Shriver threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Avery McConville, who had 84 yards on three receptions.
Goldback scored the only points of the second half on a 16-yard pass from Kmonk in the third quarter.
Nate Stephenson was the leading rusher for Waynesburg with 58 yards on 18 carries.
