Girls soccer

Alyssa Wright scored four goals to pace Chartiers-Houston to an 8-0 victory over Monessen in Section 2-A.

Ashley Horvath and Keely Acor each scored twice for the Bucs (6-1, 7-4). Kasey Scears stopped three shots for the shutout.

  • Nikki Gibbons scored with two minutes left in overtime to give Upper St. Clair a 3-2 win over Canon-McMillan in a Class 4A, Section 2 match.

Samantha Snyder tied it in regulation for C-M (3-4-1, 5-4-1) with two minutes left. Sara Powell also scored.

Jane Madson and Mandy Mertz had goals for USC (5-3, 6-3).

  • Paige Marshalek and Jocelyn Timlin each had a hat trick to help Bentworth rout Geibel 15-3 in a Section 2-A match.

Rori Schreiber and Lindsay Davis each scored twice for the Bearcats (7-0, 9-1). Jasmine Manning, Shayla Rokicki, Cande Kossel, Caitlin Marton and Meghan Cicci each scored one goal.

  • Hannah Stuck scored the only goal for Peters Township as it edged Bethel Park, 1-0, in a Section 2-AAAA match.

Rachel Raber assisted on Stuck’s goal, which came with just over three minutes left in the first half.

Peters Township improves to 7-1 in section and 9-1 overall.

  • A second-half goal by Brenna Benke was the difference in Waynesburg’s 3-2 win over Yough in a Section 3-AA match.

Kylie Sinn and Bailey Fudala also scored for the Raiders, who have won six straight to improve their record to 6-1 in section and 8-2 overall.

Yough falls to 4-4 in section and 5-4 overall.

  • Trinity won its third consecutive game with a convincing 7-0 victory over Section 3-AAA foe West Mifflin.

The Hillers, who are in third place in the section at 5-2, improved to 8-2 overall.

  • Helina Van Bibber had a hat trick to pace South Fayette to a 6-1 victory over Blackhawk in Section 4-AAA.

Sara Meindl, Katlynn Kyle and Maura Gagliardino each scored a goal for the Lions (5-2, 8-2). Blackhawk fell to 0-7 and 2-8.

Girls field hockey

Maura Farinelli had a hat trick to lead Peters Township over Taylor Allderdice, 6-0.

Greta Schratz, Nica Schratz and Lexi Lawrence each scored a goal for the Indians.

Women’s soccer

California University played all of regulation and a pair of overtime sessions to eventually earn a 1-1 draw against Indiana University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.

Cal’s Julia Darminio scored the game-tying goal with just over seven minutes left to tie the game at 1-1.

The Vulcans are now 1-7-1 overall.

Men’s soccer

After yielding a goal in the opening minutes of the contest, California fell 2-0 at Gannon on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

With the loss, the California fell to 1-3-3 overall and 0-3 record in league action. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights improve to 5-3 this season and remain undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 mark.

At the 5:09-mark, sophomore Sam Thornton scored the initial goal of the match, his seventh of the season to give Gannon the early 1-0 advantage. Freshman John Fox had the other goal.

  • Washington & Jefferson got the equalized from Connor Anderson in the in the 68th minute, but host Muskingum scored in the 110th minute to claim the 2-1 nonconference victory.

Pens beat Sabres

Phil Kessel scored twice in a 2:21 span late in the first period in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 5-1 exhibition victory over the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night.

Matt Cullen, Derick Brassard and Kris Letang also scored, and Matt Murray made 21 saves.
