Bentworth built a three-run lead then held on for a 4-3 victory over Brownsville in a Section 1-AA game. It was the first loss of the season for the Falcons, who entered the game with a 4-0 record.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth but Bentworth (1-0, 4-3) scored three in the fifth inning. Brownsville took advantage of some miscues by Bentworth and scored twice before Justin Kisner got out of the inning. Kisner finished with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He also went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Mike Vittone went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Bentworth. Austyn Pistilli had an RBI and Shawn Dziak went 2-for-3 and scored a run. The Bearcats had 11 hits but left nine on base.
Preston Frost had a double for Brownsville. Nick Kenney struck out six and walked three but took the loss.
Monessen 9, Avella 0: Vin Rhome tossed a two-hitter as Monessen shut out Avella, 9-0, in a Section 2-A game.
Rhome walked one and struck out four for Monessen. Jeremiah Quattro drove in three runs.
Avella fell to 1-1 and 1-3.
Jefferson-Morgan 12, Mapletown 1, 5 inn.: Bryce Bedilion doubled and drove in three runs to help Jefferson-Morgan to a 12-1 win in five innings in a section 2-A game.
Justin Maddich scored three runs and stole two bases for J-M (1-1, 1-4). Owen Maddich went 2-for-3 and scored three times.
Chartiers-Houston 4, Frazier 0: Chartiers-Houston broke open a scoreless game with two run in the fifth and sixth innings to down Frazier, 4-0, in a Section 1-AA game.
Josh Coletti drive in two runs and Andrew Kowalski doubled, singled and drove in a run for the Bucs (2-0, 2-0). Chase Bitz doubled and Jimmy Sadler tripled. Dustin Weiser struck out 10.
Frazier fell to 0-2 and 2-3.
