High school softball roundup: Sinn, Carmichaels perfect

Carmichaels 16, Beth-Center 0: Kylie Sinn threw a three-inning perfect game and Carmichaels used a 16-hit attack to beat visiting Beth-Center 16-0 in a Class 2A Section 3 game Tuesday.

Sinn struck out six batters and retired all nine that she faced. She was supported by an offense that produced six extra-base hits, including triples by Bria Whipkey, Emma Holaren and Emily Conklin. Shelbee McCann, Emily Menhart and Madison Ellsworth each had a double. Ellsworth was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Carmichaels moved to 5-2 in the section and 7-3 overall. Beth-Center is 0-7, 1-7.

South Fayette 12, Montour 3: Lexi Yates went 3-for-3 with four RBI and missed hitting for the cycle by a single as South Fayette crushed Montour 12-3, knocking the Spartans out a first-place tie in Class 5A Section 3.

South Fayette (4-3, 7-5), which has won five of its last six, scored in double figures for the fifth time over that span. The Lions scored three runs in the first inning and eight in the fourth.

Liv Goerdt was 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and three RBI for the Lions. Winning pitcher Mara Iagnemma had three singles.

Montour (5-2, 5-4) began the day tied for the section lead with idle Trinity but was held to seven hits by Iagnemma, who struck out seven. Lindsey Penz had three of Montour’s hits and drove in two runs.

Elizabeth Forward 4, Belle Vernon 0: Kailey Larcinese pitched a three-hit shutout as Elizabeth Forward won 4-0 at Belle Vernon in Class 4A Section 2.

Larcinese struck out nine and walked only one as EF stayed unbeaten in the section at 5-0 and improved to 6-3 overall. Bri Sersevic drove in two runs for the Warriors.

Losing pitcher Sophie Godzak doubled for Belle Vernon (3-3, 5-6).

Monessen 15, California 4: Monessen won its first game of the season, 15-4 over visiting California in Section 2-A.

The Greyhounds (1-2, 1-5) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Winning pitcher Hannah Yorty struck out seven and helped her cause by going 2-for-3. kendall Weston had a big game for the Greyhounds, going 3-for-3 with a double and triple.

Ashley Gush had three hits and an RBI for California (1-4, 1-8).

Mapletown 11, Geibel Catholic 1: Mapletown got off to a slow start but finished strong to defeat visiting Geibel Catholic 11-1 in five innings in a non-section game.

Mapletown (5-1) trailed 1-0 before taking the lead with a two-run third inning. The Maples scored nine more times over the next two innings.

Mekenzie Reda had a double for Mapletown, and Macee Cree and Briell Price each had two singles.

Winning pitcher Madie Blaker struck out 11 and gave up only two hits.

Geibel is winless at 0-5.
