Name: Kylie Sinn

School: Carmichaels

Class: Junior

Sport: Softball

Sinn’s week: It is safe to say Carmichaels is comfortable in Class 2A.

Carmichaels is riding a six-game winning streak that has the Mikes in a tie for second-place with Frazier in Class 2A Section 3.

A bulk of that winning streak came last week as Sinn led Carmichaels (7-2, 10-3) to three victories in as many days with dominating performances in the circle.

In shutout wins over Beth-Center, McGuffey and Uniontown, Sinn allowed only one hit and struck out 23. She issued only one walk in those three games.

Sinn pitched a shortened perfect game in a 16-0 three-inning win over Beth-Center. She stumped McGuffey in a 13-0 victory, giving up a lone hit and striking out 10. Sinn finished her dominance with a no-hitter and seven strikeouts in a 12-0 win over Uniontown.

“I don’t remember a stretch as crazy as this,” Sinn said. “The last few games have been huge for us. Having a five-game winning streak of giving up no runs is huge. The defense is making routine and spectacular plays behind me, which makes me comfortable in the circle. We are hitting our stride.”

Last week’s three victories were part of a five-game stretch during which Carmichaels outscored opponents 63-0. That success led to another impressive win over Frazier, 4-2, on Tuesday for the Mikes’ sixth consecutive victory.

“We have had a good energy over the last two or three weeks,” said Carmichaels coach Dave Briggs. “A lot of that comes from (Kylie). She has better command of her pitches and is hitting her spots. She is keeping teams off balanced.”

Hitting her stride: While Sinn has been a dominant force in the circle since she was a freshman, being comfortable in the batter’s box has been a work in progress.

But after joining a travel team from Pittsburgh this winter, the junior has thrived in her new role as the Mikes’ leadoff hitter. She is batting a team-best .447 with 10 extra-base hits, including four triples. She also leads the Mikes with 14 RBI and 16 runs.

“I have gotten better and stronger as a hitter,” Sinn said. “Being the leadoff hitter allows me to set the tone. I feel like just the experience and having another year under my belt (at the varsity level) helped. I was a little shaky last year but am more comfortable now. Joining that travel team and going to winter tournaments made me face better pitchers that are all probably going to play in college.”

As a pitcher, Sinn has a 10-3 record and a 1.70 ERA. She has 98 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 74 innings.

Sinn admitted being a pitcher has helped with her approach at the plate.

“It is like a chess game,” Sinn said. “It’s 80% mental and 20% percent physical. I love the adrenaline and the pressure being on my shoulders.”
