The Peters Township High School girls basketball season had its final chapter of a storybook ending written Friday afternoon.

Senior guard Makenna Marisa was named the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Class 6A Girls Player of the Year and first-team all-state for the second consecutive season. Senior Isabella Mills was named to the second team. Indians coach Bert Kendall was named the Class 6A Girls Coach of the Year.

They join only two other players on the girls’ all-state teams. West Greene’s McKenna and Madison Lampe were on the second team in Class A.

Marisa, the Observer-Reporter Girls Basketball Player of the Year and Penn State recruit, averaged 20.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists during her senior season. She reached double-digits in points in 29 of the 30 games for the Indians, including scoring 29 points with seven rebounds and seven assists in a 62-49 victory over Garnet Valley in the PIAA Class 6A Championship.

Mills, who will play at Case Western Reserve University, made 48 three-pointers this season. She finished in double figures in 26 of the Indians’ 30 games, averaging 13.8 points, 5 assists and 5.8 rebounds.

The win against Garnet Valley put Peters Township in rare company. The Indians became only the fourth girls team to win a state championship with a perfect record (30-0). They were the first girls team in Washington County history to finish a regular season undefeated and to ever win a state championship.

The Lampe twins led West Greene to its second consecutive appearance in the WPIAL Class A Championship. The Pioneers lost to Rochester, 62-56, and fell in the first round of the PIAA tournament to District 10 champion Kennedy Catholic.

McKenna Lampe, who finished as the second-leading scorer in program history with 1,631 career points, scored a team-high 14.1 points per game as a senior. She tied a for a team high with her sister with 4.2 steals per game. She was an Observer-Reporter all-district first-team selection.

A second-team all-district selection, Madison averaged 13.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 steals. She finished her career at West Greene with 1,429 points.

The pair are going to Carlow University to play softball.
