Saint Vincent beats W&J for PAC title
LATROBE – Madison Kollar and Carlee Kilgus each scored 16 points and combined for five of Saint Vincent’s eight three-point field goals as the Bearcats defeated Washington & Jefferson 70-48 Saturday evening in the championship game of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament.
Saint Vincent (23-4) earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament. W&J’s record falls to 19-8 and the Presidents will await word on an ECAC tournament berth.
The Bearcats took control of the game early with a big first quarter, forging a 24-10 lead after 10 minutes. The lead grew to as many as 22 points in the first half before Saint Vincent took a 38-17 lead into halftime.
Kilgus, a South Fayette graduate, was 3-for-3 from three-point range and the Bearcats made eight of 18 shots from behind the arc. Maria Morgan had 15 points, which included three three-pointers, and Paige Montrose scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.
W&J, which shot only 28 percent, was led in scoring by Danielle Parker and Tori Boalton, each contributing nine points. Parker had a game-high 10 rebounds.
