Wrestling roundup: McGuffey takes another step with win over Bentworth
McGuffey moved took another step toward a subsection title by steamrolling Bentworth 57-15 in Class AA Section 1B match.
McGuffey set up a showdown for first place next Wednesday at home against Beth-Center. The Highlaqnders and Bulldogs are the top two teams in the subsection.
The Highalnders mixed five pins with three consecutive forfeits in the lightweights to overwhelm Bentworth.
Nate Yagle (113) started the match with a fall for McGuffey, and after the three forfeits Jake Garrety (145) and Ethan Barr (152) had consecutive falls. Christian Clutter (182) and heavyweight Nate Cumer also had pins for the Highlanders.
Bruce Hooks (120) and John Vargo (195) each won by fall to account for 12 of Bentworth’s 15 team points.
Waynesburg 48, Connellsville 16: Waynesburg strung nine bout wins in a row to take a 48-16 win from Connellsville in a non-section match.
Nate stephenson (138), Trey Howard (145), Darnell Johnson (182), Noah Tustin (195) and Ryan Howard (Hvy) each won by fall for the Raiders (11-0). Connellsville won four of the last five bouts to avoid being shut out.
Jefferson-Morgan-West Greene ppd: The Jefferson-Morgan at West Greene wrestling match was postponed because of a power failure in the Rogersville area. The match has been rescheduled for Jan. 15.
