Which Pirates player hit grand slams in back-to-back games?

Who was the first Pittsburgh Steelers player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Name two former Pittsburgh Penguins players who have gone on to coach a Stanley Cup winning team?

Trivia questions such as these will be at the center of “Sports Trivia Night,” 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Red Fox Winery and Lounge in Hickory.

The event is sponsored by the Washington-Greene Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. A portion of the proceeds from this fund-raising event will go to the organization’s scholarship fund.

Winners receive a cash prize.

“We were looking for some kind of fund-raiser partially for the student scholarship fund,” said chapter president Ray Dallatore. “Most of the money will go to that. We talked about having a Night at the Races and several different things. We thought this was the best idea.”

The chapter awards scholarships at its annual induction ceremony in June.

Dallatore said the chapter held other fund-raisers in the past but nothing along this scale.

“We want to have a little more exposure around town,” he said, “and hopefully, this is something people will enjoy doing.”

Dallatore said the idea came from chapter treasurer Ed Monaco.

“For a few years, we’ve been trying to put together some kind of fundraiser,” Monaco said. “We give out student scholarships and we were looking for a good way to raise money and we came up with a sports trivia night.”

The Red Fox Winery and Lounge can hold 20 tables of 10. Monaco said 16 of the tables, which run $150 apiece, have been reserved already. Reservations must be made in advance and people must be at least 21 years old to attend.

“We’ll have refreshments, give some prizes away,” Monaco said. “We’ll have a 50-50 and auction off some baskets and other things.”

The trivia part of the evening will be handled by a company called Pittsburgh Bar Trivia. The chapter will be able to add local sports trivia into the company’s scheduled questions.

The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, Jan. 18. To reserve a table, call Ed Monaco at at 412-443-7265 or John Sacco at 412-559-9343 or go to wash-greenesporthall.org and go to the sports trivia link.

Oh, here are the trivia answers:

On Sept, 15, 1978, Phil Garner became one of only a handful of Major League players to hit a grand slam in consecutive games.

In 1963, Johnny “Blood” McNally became the first Pittsburgh Steelers player inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

Glen Sather and Randy Carlyle were two former Penguins players who went on to coach a Stanley Cup winning team.
