High school basketball roundup: Beth-Center’s Green scores 50 in Bulldogs’ rout
Senior guard J.J. Green scored 50 points – all in the first three quarters – and Beth-Center rolled to a 91-24 victory over host Mapletown in a nonsection boys basketball game Wednesday night.
Green scored 27 points in the first quarter, which ended with Beth-Center (7-9) holding a 33-1 lead. Green scored five more points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs increased their lead to 52-5 at halftime. Green scored his final 18 points in the third quarter, which ended with B-C leading 77-12. Green made seven three-point field goals.
Nick martin was the only other player to score in double digits for B-C. he had 11 points.
Ryan Atwood led Mapletown (1-16) with seven points.
Jefferson-Morgan 52, bentworth 46: Jefferson-Morgan held off a fourth-quarter rally by Bentworth to edge the Bearcats 52-46 in a nonsection game.
Jefferson-Morgan (4-13) received 15 points from both Elijah Saeson and Tahij Jacobs. Devin Stoneking followed with 14 points.
Bentworth’s Jacob Burke scored a game-high 17 points. Shawn Dziak had 12 for the Bearcats (0-16).
Girls result
Avella 56, Geibel Catholic 11: Brianna Jenkins scored 13 points and Avella won for the fifth time in its last six games with a 56-11 thumping of visiting Geibel Catholic in Section 2-A.
The Eagles (5-2, 11-4), who are in second place in the section, led 18-3 after one quarter and 31-4 at halftime. Ten of the 11 Avella players who saw playing time were in the scoring column.
Geibel (0-7, 1-13) was led by Sara Ehrhardt’s five points.
