Local football players selected for state all-star game
Four local high school players were selected to play in the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association East-West all-star game.
Canon-McMillan lineman Riley Noble joins South Fayette wide receiver Mike Trimbur, lineman Tom Elia and kicker Ryan Coe on the West roster, which was announced Thursday.
The game is scheduled for May 5 at Mansion Park in Altoona. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
Noble and Elia have been mainstays on the lines of scrimmage for their teams over the past three seasons. Elia signed with Richmond during the early signing period in mid-December. Noble orally committed to Gannon Jan .22 after having offers from Slippery Rock, West Liberty, Wheeling Jesuit, Findlay, Grand Valley State and Mercyhurst among others.
Trimbur put together one of the best receiving seasons in South Fayette history. The Cornell oral commit – he will sign his national letter of intent Wednesday – had 57 receptions for 1,096 yards and 17 touchdowns. His best performance came when it mattered most, hauling in five catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, along with a game-sealing interception, to lead the Lions to a 31-24 victory over Thomas Jefferson in the WPIAL Class 4A championship in November.
One of the finest kickers in the state, Coe made nine of 13 field-goal attempts as a senior. The Delaware commit helped South Fayette dominate field position with 70 touchbacks on 87 of kickoffs this season.
Eleven other players from the WPIAL were also on the roster.
