SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The second half of the Frontier League season for the Wild Things started the same way the first half ended – with a loss to Schaumburg.

Brock Carpenter hit a three-run homer – his second home run of the game – in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally Schaumburg to an 8-7 victory over Washington.

The Wild Things had twice forged leads but were unable to protect them. Washington scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 advantage. Schaumburg tied the score at 5-5 in the seventh.

Washington regained the lead, 7-5, in the eighth with plenty of help from the Boomers. The Wild Things scored two runs on three walks, three wild pitches and a fly ball hit by J.J. Fernandez that fell for a double after being lost in the lights by the Boomers’ right fielder.

Carpenter, who had five RBI, hit his game-winning home run off reliever B.J. Sabol (1-1), the third of four Washington pitchers.

Cody Erickson drove in three runs for the Wild Things.
