Lake Erie scores 5 unanswered, defeats Wild Things

AVON, Ohio – Lake Erie scored five unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat the Wild Things, 5-2, and extend its East Division lead.

The third straight loss drops Washington 91/2 games behind the East Division-leading Crushers.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Lake Erie’s Dale Burdick hit a two-run homer to tie the game. The Crushers then sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh to score three more runs and lead 5-2.

James Meeker, who relieved starter Michael Austin to begin the seventh inning, surrendered the final three runs for the loss.

Both of the Wild Things’ runs came in the second inning. Hector Roa hit a solo home run. J.J. Fernandez then scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Brett Marr to lead 2-0.
