Washington native Steve Wheatcroft lost a nine-hole sudden death playoff in the Frank B. Fuhrer Invitational Wednesday afternoon at the Pittsburgh Field Club.

Wheatcroft, who has two wins on the Web.com tour, lost on the ninth hole in sudden-death to Michael Gligic, a pro from Toronto.

The winner received a first-place check of $40,000. Wheatcroft, who finished tied with Michigan native Ryan Lenahan for second place, received a check for $16,000.

Gligic, who is coming off a win in February on the Web.com tour, shot a final round 67.

Wheatcroft was five shots off the lead during the final round but managed to tie Gligic and Lenahan and join the playoff. He finished the final round with a 69.

Wheatcroft had an opportunity to win the tournament in regulation but missed a come-backer from about seven feet on No. 18.

Wheatcroft played on the PGA tour last season but was unable to keep his status and is playing on the Web.com tour this year.

David Bradshaw began the round with a five-shot lead and appeared to have the tournament in hand. But he shot a final-round 77 and missed the playoff after a double-bogey on the 17th hole.
