Owen Johns comes out of his tuck to enter the water after completing a dive during the WPIAL Class AAA championships.

Owen Johns saves his best dives for last and the strategy pays off in crucial competition. The Mt. Lebanon senior closed out his career with back-to-back sixth-place finishes at the PIAA Championships. A four-time state qualifier, he missed a medal as a sophomore, finishing in ninth position. That was the impetus for Johns. “Make podium,” he said at the time was his future goal. From his freshman year, Johns made podium at the WPIAL competition. He finished fourth in the district then followed that up with back-to-back WPIAL runner-up performances before taking the bronze medal this winter. A school record holder, Johns will continue his career at West Virginia University.
