Boys Golf MVP – Luke Lestini

Like the spring weather in Western Pennsylvania, South Fayette’s Luke Lestini got a little better each week during the golf season. That led the South Fayette junior to some impressive finishes. Lestini’s big year began last summer when he won the Tri-State Section Boys Junior PGA Championship at Fox Run Golf Course in Beaver Falls. That qualified him for the PGA of America’s premiere junior event, the Boys Junior PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. In the high school season, Lestini played steady golf and finished third at the Section 7-AAA qualifier at Lindenwood Golf Club. That advanced him to the WPIAL semifinals at Youghiogheny Country Club, where he shot 4-over 76 for a runner-up finish. It was on to the WPIAL Class AA Championships at Oakmont Country Club, and Lestini managed the demanding course, finishing in 10th place with an 81 that included consecutive birdies on Nos. 4 and 5. At the Class AAA Southwest Regional, Lestini placed seventh, which qualified him for the state finals in York. Consecutive rounds of 78 gave Lestini a 16th-place finish, tops among all local participants.
