NYU rallies to defeat Presidents in ECAC tournament
RADNOR – New York University forged a 14-2 run to start the fourth quarter and rallied for a 52-42 victory over Washington & Jefferson in the ECAC Division III women’s basketball tournament quarterfinals Friday evening.
The loss ends W&J’s season with a 20-9 record. NYU (15-10) advances to the semifinals.
W&J’s Danielle Parker had her ninth double-double of the season. The senior forward from Canonsburg scored a game-high 20 points, which included four three-pointers, and grabbed 14 rebounds.
NYU won despite shooting only 31 percent and getting outrebounded 45-37. The Violets committed only five turnovers and were able to take nine more shots than W&J, which committed 19 turnovers and was only 2-for-3 at the free-throw line.
Alie Seto was the only other W&J player to score in double figures. She had 10 points.
NYU was led by Janean Cuffee’s 14 points.
W&J led 34-31 after three quarters before the key stretch of the game gave NYU a late 45-36 lead.
