Small college basketball roundup: Cal women win finale, set for PSAC tournament
California University’s women’s basketball team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 72-60 victory at Clarion in a PSAC West Division game.
The Vulcans finish with a 17-4 mark in the conference and improve to 23-4 overall. Cal begins play in the PSAC tournament Wednesday at home in the quarterfinals. The Vulcans will play the winner of the first-round game Monday between Gannon and Edinboro. Cal received a bye into the quarterfinals as the second-place team from the West Division.
Clarion finishes 3-18 in the conference and 9-19 overall.
The Vulcans pulled away from Clarion in the middle two quarters, extending their 16-14 first-quarter lead to 59-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Seairra Barrett again led the charge for the Vulcans with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Abbey Sporio also scored 19 points, while Bianca Jasper added 18.
Kadijah Dickson led Clarion with 15 points. Yndiah Bobo added 13.
Men’s results
Clarion 90, California 78: The Vulcans were unable to rally from an 11-point halftime deficit, finishing the season with a 90-78 loss at Clarion.
Clarion (4-17, 6-20) led 44-34 at halftime.
Collin MacAdams had a strong game for the Vulcans (6-15, 8-19) with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. Brent Pegram finished with 19 points and Zyan Collins added 17.
Lawrence Lemon was the top scorer for the Golden Eagles with 22 points. Khari Williams (18), Elijah Cottrill (14), and Brandon Williams (11) also finished in double figures.
California graduate Kass Taylor scored six points and grabbed one rebound for Clarion.
