PIAA basketball: Wash High girls’ postseason run gets fouled up
EBENSBURG – Penn Cambria, the District 6 champion, used a pair of 11-0 runs – one in the second quarter and one in the fourth – to defeat Washington 70-37 in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A girls basketball playoffs Friday night at Central Cambria High School.
Penn Cambria (21-6) led Washington 32-19 at halftime, then outscored the Prexies 44-18 in the second half of the foul-filled game. Penn Cambria attempted 41 free throws, including 21 in the fourth quarter. Wash High shot 18 free throws.
Ryanna Hackenos led a balanced Penn Cambria attack with 18 points, Makalyn Clapper had 12 and Emma Harvey 10.
Carley Allen was the lone Washington player in double figures with 13 points.

Bishop McDevitt 82, Ringgold 37: Bishop McDevitt, the District 3 champion, scored 54 points over the middle two quarters and overwhelmed Ringgold 83-27 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg.
Bishop McDevitt (23-3) led 19-8 after one quarter and then outscored the Rams 54-24 over the next 16 minutes. Ringgold, which ends its season with a 14-10 record, was making its first appearance in the state tournament since winning the PIAA title in 1995.
Antoine Byrd led four Bishop McDevitt players in double figures with 17 points. Jake Kelly and Tarajae Davis each scored 14 points and Kenyon Elliott had 10.
Luke Wyvratt led Ringgold in scoring with 10 points. Chris Peccon followed with nine.
