Monessen boys, Peters Twp. girls in twinbill at KO
There are only two local basketball teams – the Peters Township girls and Monessen boys – remaining in the PIAA playoffs and you can watch both of them in a doubleheader Friday night.
Monessen (17-9), which used a last-minute basket to cap a rally and defeat Bishop Carroll in a Class A second-round game Tuesday night, will play WPIAL champion Nazareth Prep (21-3) on Friday night in the Class A quarterfinals at Keystone Oaks High School. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
The undefeated Peters Township girls (27-0), coming off their fourth victory this season over Bethel Park, will play Norwin (23-2), the fourth-place team out of the WPIAL, in the Class 6A quarterfinals, also at Keystone Oaks. That game will start at approximately 8 p.m.
The Monessen-Nazareth Prep winner advances to the state semifinals Tuesday against either Vincentian Academy (18-8) or Cornell (21-5).
The Peters Township-Norwin winner will play Tuesday against a team from District 1, either Abington (24-4), the third-place team, or Upper Dublin (24-4), the fifth-place team.
