High school baseball roundup: One run all Trinity needs to edge Ringgold
Jared Watson scored the game’s only run on a two-out infield single by Michael Parrish as Trinity defeated Ringgold 1-0 in a non-section game played Thursday night at Ross Memorial Park.
Winning pitcher Camden Zaken allowed two hits over six innings. He struck out 10. Brent Kurtz got the final three outs for a save. He struck out two batters.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Watson led off the inning with a single off Ringgold starter Gage Fuller, who gave up four hits over 5 1/3 innings. A bunt by Zaken moved Watson to second base and a groundout moved him to third base.
Trinity improved its record to 4-3. Ringgold fell to 0-2 with a pair of one-run losses.
Waynesburg 10, California 2: Jesse Johnson hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, and Waynesburg broke open a close game in the late innings to defeat host California 10-2 in a non-section game.
Waynesburg (1-1) led 3-1 after five innings, then scored twice in the sixth and five times in the seventh.
Luke Robinson doubled and drive in a pair of runs for the Raiders, and Kyle Blasco drove in two and scored twice.
Winning pitcher Kyle Shriver struck out four over 5 1/3 innings.
Brody Conner and Jordan Kerns each had two singles for California (1-1).
West Greene 7, Bentworth 1: Caleb Rice went the distance and struck out 11 to help West Greene defeat Bentworth 7-1 in a non-section game.
Corey Wise doubled for West Greene (2-0), which scored three runs on passed balls.
Losing pitcher Mike Vittone had an RBI single for Bentworth (1-2).
South Fayette 11, Chartiers Valley 0: Richie Dell and Ryan Kokoski combined on a two-hit shutout and undefeated South Fayette scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Lions defeated Chartiers Valley 11-0 in a non-section game.
Dell pitched six shutout innings, striking out 11 and not issuing a walk. Kokoski got the final three outs, striking out two.
Eli Snider led South Fayette (5-0) at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Christian Gabriel tripled, and Nolan Vertullo had three singles and drove in two runs.
Burgettstown 5, Washington 3: Two Washington pitchers walked in five runs over the final two innings to give Burgettstown a 5-3 win in a non-section game played at Wild Things Park.
Wash High (0-3) led 2-0 heading to the top of the sixth when the pitching problems hit. Washington had a total of eight walks in the game, five with the bases loaded.
Asa Charnick went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Prexies. Seth Arnold went 3-for-3 and scored a run for Burgettstown (2-0).
