Carmichaels’ Sinn shines in win

Kylie Sinn struck out the first nine batters she faced as Carmichaels pulled away late to defeat Oak Hill, W.Va., 7-1 in a non-section softball game Saturday afternoon.

Sinn finished her seven innings in the circle with no walks, 16 strikeouts and surrendering only one run. She also hit a home run for the Mikes.

Leading 2-1 entering the seventh inning, Carmichaels (2-0) scored five runs to extend its lead. Shelby McCann went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Gina Ranieri, Madison Ellsworth and Emily Menhart each had two hits. Bria Whipkey also homered for the Mikes.

Chartiers-Houston 2, Frazier 1: Kasey Scears singled home Lauren Lober for the game-winning run in the top of the fifth inning as Chartiers-Houston edged Frazier, 2-1, in a Class 2A Section 3 game.

The win puts C-H (2-0, 5-0) in the early driver’s seat in the section standings.

Scears then ended the game by throwing out a Commodores’ runner trying to steal to get into scoring position for the final out.

Frazier pitcher Logan Hartman limited the Bucs for most of the game, surrendering only three hits and striking out 12 in seven innings.

Frazier falls to 1-1 in the section and 2-1 overall.

West Greene 11, Campbellsville 0: West Greene picked up its first win of the season with an 11-0, six-inning win over Campbellsville, KY at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

McKenna Lampe was 3-for-5, with 4 RBI and scored 2 runs. She had a 2-run, inside-the-park homer in her first at-bat of the 6th inning, then invoked the mercy rule with a walk-off, game-ending ground rule double over the centerfield fence to drive in 2 more in her 2nd at-bat of the inning.

Madison Lampe was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs. Jade Renner was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and picked up the pitching win, striking out 4.

Kaitlyn Rizor went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Jersey Wise added 2 hits, including a triple, with 2 RBI. Mackenzie Carpenter and Kiley Meek added 2 hits each for West Greene.

Waynesburg 15, Valley 1: Selena Phillips hit three home runs and drove in five runs as Waynesburg clobbered Valley High School of Louisville, KY, 15-1, in a five-inning game played at the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Erin Fitch doubled for Waynesburg (3-0) and Jordan Sibert went 3-for-4. Paige Rutan went 3-for-3. Meghan Braun struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Ligonier Valley 3, Belle Vernon 1: Ligonier Valley got all its runs in the first inning to down Belle Vernon, 3-1, in a non-section game.

Courtney McKlveen went 3-for-3 and Mia Lynn and Madison Griffin each had two hits for LV.

Ashley Joll doubled and Mekenzie Zokol had two hits for the Leopards.

Baseball

Carmichaels 6, Waynesburg 4: Dylan Wilson singled and Nick Ricco hit a sacrifice fly as Carmichaels scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a tied game and defeat Waynesburg in a non-section game, 6-4.

Drake Long then finished the game on the mound for the Mikes with two scoreless innings for the save. Gavin Pratt earned the win for Carmichaels (3-0), surrendering four runs on four hits and striking out five through five innings.

Waynesburg (1-2) tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Kyle Shriver and Trevor Stephenson each went 2-for-4 for the Raiders.

Collin Reynolds had a pair of hits and Zach Gamble had three RBI for Carmichaels.

Canon-McMillan 9, Montour 6: Eight combined runs in the third and fourth inning propelled Canon-McMillan to a 9-6 victory over Montour in a non-section game, ending the Big Macs’ two-game losing skid.

Canon-McMillan (3-2) trailed 2-1 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning and three in the fourth to lead 9-2.

Cam Walker and Noah Burke each had a multi-hit game for the Big Macs. Walker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. Burke went 2-for-4, drove in a pair of runs and scored two times.

Montour falls to 3-3 overall.
