Richie Dell’s three-run home run highlighted a six-run fourth inning and sparked South Fayette to an 8-4 victory over North Hills in a Section 2 game in Class 5A.
The win assured South Fayette (5-5, 11-6) a berth in the WPIAL playoffs.
Ryan McGuire doubled, singled and knocked in two runs for the Lions. Mitch Dunay had a double and RBI. Joey Acorn went 3-for-3, scored a run and brought home a run.
Aiden Knupsky had two doubles for North Hills (2-8, 3-14). Jordan Albright tripled.
Ringgold 6, Elizabeth Forward 1: Ringgold scored in each of the first three innings on the way to a 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Forward in a Section 3 game in Class 4A.
Chase Angotti singled and scored twice for the Rams (10-3, 11-5). He also picked up the win, striking out five.
EF is 7-6 and 10-7.
Washington 11-1, Southmoreland 5-11: Washington and Southmoreland split a doubleheader in Section 3 of Class AAA. Washington won the opener, 11-5, and dropped the second game, 11-1, in five innings.
In Game 1, Asa Charnik and Mario Griffin each had two-run singles for Wash High (1-10, 3-13). Winning pitcher Hunter Amos went 3-for-4 with a run.
In Game 2, Southmoreland (1-10, 3-13) took advantage of 10 walks by Wash High pitching. Anthony Govern struck out seven.
Brownsvillle 7, Burgettstown 5: D.J. Zimcosky doubled, tripled and drove in three runs to help Brownsville stop Burgettstown, 7-5, in a Section 1-AA game.
Austin Lincoski managed to score three runs without getting a hit. He walked twice and got on via a fielder’s choice for the Falcons (7-4, 11-4). Mike Petrock had a double and triple.
Nathan Klodowski went 3-for-5 with a run and RBI for Burgettstown (2-10, 4-12). Jackson LaRocka went 3-for-4 with a run.
Trinity 6, Carrick 0: Michael Parrish homered and drove in two runs to propel Trinity to a 6-0 win over Carrick in a Section 3 game in Class 5A.
Jared Watson had two doubles and drove in two for the playoff-bound Hillers (6-6, 10-10). Brandon Robaugh singled and scored twice.
Skyler Giannetti had two of the four hits for Carrick (1-9, 4-10).
Fort Cherry 14, Avella 1: A seven-run sixth inning sealed the deal for Fort Cherry in a 14-1 victory over Avella in a non-section game.
Ryan Craig went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI for Fort Cherry (9-8). Lane Miller added a double and RBI and Hunter Terpack went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Winning pitcher Blake McElhaney struck out five.
Chase McAlpine drove in the run for Avella (5-11).
Softball
West Greene 10, Waynesburg 4: West Greene improved its overall record to 15-4 with a 10-4 non-section win over rival Waynesburg. For this senior class, it was the 90th win.
McKenna Lampe doubled and scored twice. Madison Lampe and Kaitlyn Rizor were each 3-for-4 and both hit 2-run homers. Rizor’s home run opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, and she went on to drive in three runs total. Madison Lampe’s homer came in the fifth and accounted for her two RBI.
Jade Renner had two hits, including a double and two RBI. She picked up the win, striking out 10 against 1 walk. Kiley Meek also drove in two runs for West Greene.
Megan Braun took the loss for Waynesburg, striking out one. Selena Phillips had a double, and Rachel Elsenheimer and Brooke Coss had two hits each for the Raiders (9-9).
Chartiers-Houston 12, Bentworth 2: Nicolette Kloes homered and drove in four to help Chartiers-Houston stop Bentworth, 12-2, in a Section 3-AA game.
Kaci Alderson doubled and drove in three runs and Kasey Scears went 2-for-3 and knocked in tworuns for Chartiers-Houston (11-1, 15-3). Karlyn Bayer added a triple and two RBI. Ella Brookman struck out eight.
Leah Lindley had a double among her two hits for the Bearcats (5-7, 9-10). Emilie Snyder had a single and RBI.
South Fayette 5, Trinity 0: Madison Potteiger doubled and drove in four runs in South Fayette’s 5-0 victory over Trinity in a Section 3 game in Class 5A.
Mara Iagnemma pitched a complete game and struck out six for the Lions (8-4, 11-7).
Marlaina Bozek doubled for Trinity (10-2, 13-3).
Fort Cherry 15, Avella 0: Lily Bedillion tripled and drove in five runs to push Fort Cherry to a 15-0 victory over Avella in a three-inning Section 2-A game.
Sarah Wolfe brought in three runs and Macey Robie two for Fort Cherry (5-7, 6-7). Chloe Smith did not allow a hit and struck out six.
Avella is 0-10 and 0-14.
Beth-Center 16, Washington 11: Mallory Little hit an inside-the-park home run and drove in four runs to pace Beth-Center to a 16-11 victory over Washington in a non-section game.
Jen Zelenick had a double for Beth-Center (2-12).
